Chalk It UP! Prescott is a FREE community supported street chalk
art event intended to cultivate and support the creativity in people of
all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome.
Inspired by the
street painting artists of the Renaissance Era, Prescott’s fourth annual
chalk festival will be held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22,
2012 from 10 AM-4PM. The event is hosted @ Summit Plaza, 201 N. Montezuma,
Prescott, Arizona.
This festival brings an opportunity to experience
the tradition of the I Madonnari street painters. In 16th century Italy
beggars using chalk on the plazas outside cathedrals copied painting of
the Madonna by Raphael and his contemporaries. Through these street painters
an artistic tradition was born and continues today.
