And being owned by the same family that owns The Haunted Hamburger in
Jerome, I expected something great. Our experience, however, was somewhat
different. Not to say that we didn't enjoy ourselves, or that I wouldn't
recommend other people try it, but I don't think it's all that it's cracked
up to be.
We arrived for dinner about five minutes before opening,
and there was a small line already formed outside. Our first impression
was that this place is great and everyone knows. We later found out that
this was a single party in the area celebrating a wedding, so it was pure
coincidence.
Upon entering, we did find that the atmosphere
was extremely comfortable. Some of the booths were the size of a bed,
which might be appropriate since after a meal like this a nap is often
in order. I usually enjoy dim lighting, but I think this was overdoing
it. I felt very tired not too long after entering.
The complimentary
appetizer of ciabatta bread with garlic and olive oil was delicious. The
main courses were definitely prepared differently than we had seen otherwise,
and were looking forward to the experience. However, flavor was not the
main ingredient. The food was not bad; the problem was simply that the
flavors were not really there. The phrase I would use to describe it would
be "kinda bland."
Once we paid the bill, we hung around for
about another 20 minutes enjoying the environment and talking. Unfortunately,
at this point, we never saw our server again. A few drink refills would
have been nice.
Nic's is located at 925 N. Main St. in (Old
Town) Cottonwood.
