Of course it's illegal, there's no question about that. But being
illegal doesn't make it wrong. There are many stupid laws. You can't
get support for something on legalities alone, you have to get people to
believe in a cause.
I think it's easier to get people behind
the idea of "stop the abuse" than it is to rally support for "breakup families."
If
all we're ever concerned with is "it's illegal", then nothing will happen
to correct the situation. Instead, if someone were to highlight to abuse
and forced lifestyles of these residents, people would be more likely to
want to do something about it.
