Are there any lakes or rivers that are good for swimming? Any comments about the public school system?

The high school that I graduated from, McClintock, opens their pool to the public, and I think it's about $2 for the entire day. There are other places around here that do that as well. But there are also many houses that have their own pools. And if you live in a condo, townhouse, or apartment complex, they almost always have the community pool for the residents (which is usually kept very clean).

You can swim in most lakes as well.. there are over 100 of them in Arizona. Saguaro Lake is one I used to frequent as a kid, only about 20 minutes outside of the valley.

If you want real swimming holes, take a nature hike along places like the west fork of Oak Creek. You'll find some great places to cool off that are fun for simming and/or cliff-jumping.
