monsoon - health care jobs

Hello, I have read much online about flooding and monsoons. Hubby and I are considering relocating to the Chandler area. Are these floods serious? Are houses covered in water and washed away? Also, how is the job scene for health care workers? Particularly, Occupational therapists. Hubby is in the facilities securities area. How are jobs for that? Thanks.

Also, we are from the Chicago area, Flossmoor, Illinois and are looking for a family friendly area that is pretty. Greenery, trees, good views, good parks and of course excellent public schools. Would Chandler be the best choice? We are open to suggestions. Will be coming out for a visit in 2wks. Thanks again!!

Rarely (and I mean less than once a decade) does the water flood up beyond the sidewalk during a rain storm. Areas in the valley that have flooding problems are designated as flood zones.. if the house you are looking to purchase is in a flood zone, this is something that will be disclosed to you when you are looking for a house. Your realtor can help you with this.

We've done a pretty good job of not putting houses in flood zones, and otherwise moving water away quickly so that it doesn't build up. Usually what we have here are called "flash floods." This is because we get so little rain that the ground gets hard.. that when it does rain heavily the ground can't soak it up very well and it floods quickly, usually within about 15 or 20 minutes. Areas that flash flood are labeled with street signs (i.e. "Do not enter when flooded" signs). Some people aren't too bright and they think their little Geo Metros can make it through three feet of water under an overpass, and they get stuck. It's more amusing than anything else :-).

Chandler, Gilbert, and Queen Creek (though further from the city) are all good for that style. Those areas tend to be newer, so most vegetation (like trees) are rather young. You can usually tell how old an area is by how big the trees are.. so give certain parts of those areas a few years. Though I would highly recommend visiting those cities/towns (the east valley) during your visit. It's a great place to have a family.
