I read the threads about good vs. bad areas in Phoenix. What about good vs. bad areas in Surprise? Does anyone know? I'm looking for low crime and nice neighborhoods.

Surprise is in the far northwest part of the Phoenix metro area. I've only been there a few times, but I've never seen any bad areas.

I would stay away from El Mirage which is on the border of Surprise. Also, train noise and Luke Air Force base could be a problem depending on where you are. Be advised that Olive and Bell are the only streets that go through to the 101 freeway. Bell is much busier, so if you can get into a new development around Olive I think it would be a quicker drive.

Crime statistics, while an imperfect measurement at best, nevertheless provide some indication of the level of criminal activity in an area. To check out the crime statistics for the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and Peoria go to www.faxnet1.org. For a list of all Arizona city links, go to www.azleague.org. To find crime statistics on their websites, you may need to search for "crime statistics." Hope that helps.

One place I like in Surprise is the West Point Towne Center. Yea, it's got some miscellaneous vandalism here and there, but overall, it's a nice community right next to Bell, Grand, and Litchfield Road. It's also got LOTS of really nice walking trails.

Although you get some flyovers from Luke, I've found it's nowhere near as bad as some of the communities we looked at in El Mirage (reference to another poster's comments).
