The most popular route is the self-guided tour of Tonto Cliff Dwellings, which includes 5/8 of a mile of walking on easy-to-moderate terrain. Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks, as services are limited within the monument.

Best Times to Visit

Tonto National Monument is open year-round, although summer months can be extremely hot. The best times to visit are during the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November), when temperatures are mild and comfortable for exploring.

Getting There and Staying Nearby

Tonto National Monument is located about 120 miles east of Phoenix, near the town of Globe. Visitors can fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and drive from there, or rent a car in Globe to explore the surrounding area.
