This 906-acre park preserves three historic O'odham missions, each offering a glimpse into the lives of the indigenous people who once called this land home.

Discovering the O'odham Missions

Tumacácori's three missions – Mission San José de Tumacácori, Mission Guevavi, and Mission Los Santos Ángeles de la Peña – were established in the 18th century by Spanish Franciscan missionaries. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of these missions, learning about the history and culture of the O'odham people through exhibits, artifacts, and interpretive programs.

Wildflower Hikes at Tumacácori

During the spring season (February to May), the desert landscapes surrounding Tumacácori burst into vibrant colors as wildflowers bloom. The park offers several trails that are perfect for exploring these colorful blooms. Here are a few of our favorite wildflower hikes:

  • Tumacácori Canyon Trail: This 2.5-mile loop trail takes you through a lush canyon, where you can spot a variety of wildflowers, including the iconic O'odham sunset penstemon.
  • Mission Trail: This easy, 1.5-mile trail connects the three missions and offers stunning views of the surrounding desert landscape, which is blanketed with wildflowers during peak season.
  • Tumacácori River Trail: This moderate, 4.5-mile out-and-back trail follows the Santa Cruz River and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Tips for Exploring Tumacácori's Wildflowers

When visiting Tumacácori during wildflower season, be sure to:
