Unraveling the Legend of Hiikaruk

Tucked away in the desert landscape between Phoenix and Tucson lies Arizona City, a master-planned community with a rich indigenous heritage that spans centuries. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, also known as the SRPMIC, is home to the descendants of the ancient Hohokam people, who built a thriving civilization along the Salt River over 2,000 years ago.

The Legend of Hiikaruk

According to Pima oral tradition, Hiikaruk was a great leader and spiritual guide who lived during the height of the Hohokam's power. He is said to have been born with extraordinary abilities, which allowed him to communicate with the spirits of the land and predict future events. Hiikaruk played a crucial role in maintaining balance and harmony within the community, ensuring the prosperity of his people through wise leadership and innovative agricultural practices.
