Christmas 2004

On the block where I grew up, where my parents and still live, we have
a tradition. On Christmas Eve, everyone sets up luminarios around their
house so that the entire block is lit. This display attracts a decent
amount of attention. I remember one year even a news crew came out and
broadcast a live segment showing off our display. Our neighbors meet out
front of one of the houses and drink hot chocolate, apple cider, and eat
snacks.
Even though I don't live in that same neighborhood anymore,
I still participate in this tradition that's gone on for nearly 20 years.
Heck, it's only a 10-minute drive away anyway. But like us, there are
many others that have their same Christmas traditions; things that they
do the same every year, and without these activities, events, or people;
Christmas just wouldn't be the same.
I feel fortunate that I
get to spend this time with my friends and family, and look forward to
it for many more years with the same traditions for as long as possible,
as that's what makes Christmas important to me. I hope that everyone else
reading this will have an equally enjoyable holiday season.
