Haunted Town On A Hill
by Crystal Coons
May 7, 2003

We sat at dinner one late night in the city of Jerome. The Haunted Hamburger
was our restaurant of choice. We sat outside on the patio on one of the
higher streets where we could overlook not only the city, but the entire
Verde Valley. As our food was served, the breeze picked up into a strong
wind, flowing through my hair adding to the eerie yet enticing atmosphere
that engulfs the city.
Charming and eerie are the words that come
to mind when I think about Jerome. Jerome has always been a place that
intrigued me.
The following day, after having no sleep the night
before, having slept in what I believe was a haunted hotel room, we explored
the main shops.
The main road in Jerome was filled with few tourists
and many locals. Despite Jerome's "Stephen King Novel" feel, the community
seemed close-knit. It seemed everyone knew everyone else. We were greeted
by a smile everywhere we went.
