Little Vacation, Big Deal

This will be the first time in quite a while that I will be going on what
I would consider a real vacation. Beginning Friday, we're going to be
on our way up north. Our room is in Sedona, though we will be spending
our time doing various activities in that entire region.
This
vacation is a little different, however. We reserved our room over a month
ago, we've been planning, preparing, and awaiting anxiously ever since.
But in the past, we've always sort of just winged it (or would that be
"wung it"?). For our last vacation, we left town during the weekend and
just decided that we were going to stay somewhere else for a few days.
It wasn't planned to this extent. If I recall correctly, everything that
we decided to do was all off the top of our heads, and it was a lot of
fun.
Of course, that was back in the days when I was a bit younger
and work wasn't as time-consuming as it has recently become. The only
way to make sure that I have a weekend available now is to plan for it
to be that way, and then prepare for it so that time can't be sucked up
by something else.
So this is sort of a weird feeling. With
all of the anticipation and leading up to the event, this seems like much
more of a "big deal" than it really is. In either case, I am looking forward
to the time out, and the quiet atmosphere in which to write, hike, and
take lots and lots of photographs.
